Lunch time atop Whitewood peak overlooking the other peaks of the mapping area. This is day 1 of 3 for our final project. #daysoffieldcamp #geology
Day 27 of field camp: we stopped at Devil’s Tower in Wy on our way through to our new mapping location in the Black Hills of SD. Devil’s Tower is a igneous (volcanic) intrusion that pushed through several formations that have since eroded away. #daysoffieldcamp #geology #devilstower
Day 23 of field camp: watched the sun set from the top of the mountains above our lodge, seriously such a beautiful sight. #daysoffieldcamp #geology #godsbeautifulcreature
So today we were collecting data for our current project and I was walking on the flat top of one of the hills, looked down and saw a this half buried in the dirt, a working Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. I asked my instructor about it and said that its at least 2 years old and was lost from a school that use to join this camp…he also said finders keepers! Pretty pumped about it 😃 #daysoffieldcamp #geology
Found the Grinch’s mountain today. It’s known as Pilot Peak and is in Wyoming, (in the words of my instructor) it’s the horniest of horns #daysoffieldcamp #geologyjokes #grinch
Saw this shirt today in a little town right outside of Yellowstone in our adventures into Montana for some field recon. #daysoffieldcamp #yellowstone #vegetarians #bear
Day 17 of field camp: today we changed locations from Sheridan, WY to the Mickelson Field Station, 40 minutes into the mountains above Cody, WY. On our way there, we did some vanology (recon) of some of the key locations for one of the two projects that we will have in the area. Behind me are the Heart Mountains in all their complicated, beautiful glory! Seriously, so privileged to see all of these amazing areas even if we are mainly working! #daysoffieldcamp #geology #mountains #shortswereabadchoice
I think this is easily one of my favorite songs of all time, seriously I could listen to it over an over #blink182 #nostalgia #favorite
So my mapping area has a intrusive granite dike that runs through it, when you draw it on a cross section there is no way to tell what it “really” looks like in the subsurface…so I took a little creative licensing with mine. Meet Sir Granite Duke III. Yes, this is on my final draft of this project
Day 14 of field camp: stood on the fault right next to coyote peak, 1000’ up from the valley below. Seriously love the places we’ve been too…though the days can be pretty long haha #daysoffieldcamp #geology #Godsartwork
Day 12 of field camp: working on our second mapping project, this time it’s on the land of a retired VP of Texaco. Seriously this guy has some ridiculous beautiful views of the snow capped Rocky Mountains! #daysoffieldcamp #geology #rockymountainhigh
Lunch spot 7032’ above sea level and ~1000’ from the valley below. Makes ya feel pretty small. #daysoffieldcamp #geology #vertigo
Memorial Day is tomorrow and I wish everyone a great day of rest and relaxation with your families! Please, don’t forget what this day truly is for; don’t forget the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice and for their loved ones who have to bare the pain of lose. #gratitude #memorialday #respect
All three days of field description and measurements gives information that (hopefully) makes the map making work #geology #daysoffieldcamp #grownupcoloringbooks
